He holds a degree in Medicine with a specialty in Psychiatry from the University of Chile and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Ulm, Germany. Throughout his professional career, he has been a member of important psychiatric and psychoanalytic institutions, most notably as a founding member and first president of the South American chapter of the Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR).
In addition, he has contributed greatly to the training of psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapy researchers.
To date, he has more than 100 publications, including books and articles in specialized journals, in different languages.
He was a Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health in the East of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile.
